Quintet Hot Club of France, original Selmer and Maccaferri
guitars of the early 20th century are trading hands today
for five figure sums. These guitars have achieved a near
mythical status something usually reserved for the finest
in vintage Gibson and Martin guitars.
Thankfully, Saga the company behind the Gitane brand of
gypsy jazz guitars have created instruments based upon the
original designs and style of Selmer and Maccaferri jazz
guitars and at a very much more affordable price. They are
all solid wood, are a joy to play, and look and sound like
the real thing, right down to the excellent reproduction of
the original tailpiece.
Gypsy Jazz is thriving today with players such a John
Jorgenson giving the genre tremendous coverage alongside
the superb playing of other established players on the
